Ranger Training - Workshops

2008 Trainings and Refreshers

The training is open to any rangers who will be allowed to lead BTW programs in their current position. If you have already taken BTW training and want a refresher, you are more than welcome to attend. But please also encourage colleagues who are not familiar with BTW to attend.

Because we realize each park has its own scheduling issues, the same training is being offered both in August and in September. We have selected the most popular modules for inclusion. The third day of each series will be catchup for folks who can only make 1 of the first 2 days.

Wednesday, August 13: Harpers Ferry National Historical Park
Time: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
Location: Historic Preservation Training Center at Monocacy National Battlefield
Content: BTW Overview/role of the ranger and Water Canaries/Watershed Watchdogs modules

Alice Ferguson Foundation will provide lodging near the park the night before each day for which an applicant is registered.

Meals and Lodging: Alice Ferguson Foundation will provide dinner the night before and breakfast and lunch on the day of the training. Lodging will be provided by AFF the evening before training. Parks are responsible ONLY for per diem and travel.

What to bring: shoes and clothes that can get wet/dirty, pen/pencil, refillable water bottle

What you’ll get out of it: Learn how you can be involved in the Bridging the Watershed program, learn to love (or at least be comfortable with) leading science programs. The Water Canaries and Watershed Watchdogs modules, two of 5 core curriculum modules in the BTW program, will be reviewed (emphasis for the day will be selected once participants have registered, based on your needs). If you have already received BTW training, refresh your knowledge, practice field identification skills, and gain some new skills. If you have never received BTW training, learn about this fabulous program and become equipped to provide BTW facilitation in your park or crosstraining in other parks.
